CERTIFICATION EXTENSION: Excluded COUNTRIES
Following the governmental easing of Coronavirus restrictions in some regions, and consultation with our Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) Chairs and TMCs, our Technician Certification Extension Scheme is being gradually withdrawn on a country by country basis. Please see the following list of countries where the certification extension scheme has been withdrawn:
- Canada (except Ontario)
- New Zealand
- Republic of Macedonia
- South Africa
- United Arab Emirates
- United States of America
IRATA are continually monitoring global events related to COVID-19 containment measures and may add or remove countries from the above list as deemed appropriate.
IRATA Technician Certificate Extensions
We are aware that many of our technicians’ certification will expire through no fault of their own, and due to the situation with COVID-19, it may not be possible for technicians to undertake the required training and assessment. As the global situation continues to develop and in these exceptional circumstances, the IRATA Executive Committee have determined that where renewal of technician certification cannot be obtained as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, that an extension should be granted through a temporary certification extension process.
We have implemented a procedure for existing IRATA technicians to extend their certification and will consider applications for certification that has expired on or following 01/02/2020, or certification that will expire within 30 days from the date of application and additionally meet with at least one of the ‘Grounds for Extension’. No new candidates (currently IRATA un-certified) or un-assessed upgrades shall be permitted through this process.
Prior to submitting your application, please read the information below to check that you meet the requirements. A new certificate will not be issued but you will be sent notification of approval/rejection to the email address provided on your application. The IRATA Technician Checker will be updated accordingly.
Note: Certificate extension should not be assumed until you have received notification from IRATA.
If you are working in a country that is excluded from the certification extension scheme, you will not be able to extend your certification (see above list of excluded countries).
Period of Extension
Upon successful application, an extension of 90 days will be granted to your current (or expired as of 01/02/2020) certification. The period of extension will be 90 days from the certificate expiry date.
IRATA will continue to monitor the situation regarding COVID-19 and evaluate the suitability and necessity of the IRATA certificate extension process. This process will remain in effect until deemed that it is no longer necessary.
Grounds for Extension
IRATA will consider applications for certification that expired on or following 01/02/2020, or certification that will expire within 30 days from the date of application for extension. Additionally, at least one of the following ‘Grounds for Extension’ must apply to your application:
1. My current certificate has expired or will expire during a period of isolation or quarantine relating to COVID-19 containment measures.
2. I was unable to physically attend an IRATA training course and/or assessment due to restrictions relating to COVID-19 containment measures.
3. I was trained but the IRATA assessment was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
4. I was booked on a training course but it was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
5. I attended a training course but it was not completed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
