London Work at Height Seminar 2019 en

2019-07-15

Following another successful London Work at Height Seminar (LWAHS) we are pleased to announce that a compilation of highlights from the day’s events is now available to view on our website.

The Seminar, held for the fourth consecutive year at London’s prestigious Guildhall, once again provided an excellent platform for knowledge sharing between attendees and representative organisations from the Work at Height sector. Guest speakers, exhibitors and attendees from the UK, USA and Europe, representing local government authorities, international standard-setting boards, multinational facilities management companies and equipment manufacturers contributed to an excellent and informative event. A rope access rescue demonstration was on show in the historic ‘Courtyard’ of the Guildhall, attracting the attention of the general public, with one passer-by commenting “what thrilling entertainment during a lunch break”.

The LWAHS encourages open communication and collaboration between the different sectors across the working at height spectrum. The seminar is rare in that it is a collaborative effort between the City of London Corporation, IRATA International and the Access Industry Forum (AIF), which represents 11 of the leading Work at Height and Health and Safety organisations.

Glasgow Central MP, Alison Thewliss, who presented the first report from the ‘All-Party Parliamentary Group on Working at Height’, was welcomed back to the LWAHS to give an update on progress. We were delighted to welcome Thomas Kramer (P.E., C.S.P – Principle, LJB Inc.) who delivered an insightful presentation about ‘Lessons Learned and Best Practices from the U.S.’. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), City of London Corporation and College of Policing, all shared their expertise in their respective fields and were present throughout the day for open discussion and to respond to attendees’ questions. We also welcomed Peter Bennet OBE, Chairman of the Access Industry Forum (AIF) and Managing Director of PASMA, who provided an update on the AIF’s activities.

WORK AT HEIGHT INNOVATION AWARD

This year’s event saw the introduction of the ‘The City of London Work at Height Innovation Award’. The winner of the inaugural award was IRATA International, for their outstanding global efforts to regulate the Rope Access Industry and to promote best practice. Additionally, their work organising the LWAHS was recognised by Justin Tyas and Paul Roberts representing The City of London Corporation. IRATA International Chairman, Jonathan Capper and Secretary/General Manager Rodney Marage were present to receive the award and to thank the IRATA Team and volunteers for their exceptional efforts.

We are thrilled to confirm that the London Work at Height Seminar 2020 will return to the Guildhall, London in July 2020, and we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the City of London Corporation for their continued support of the event. We would also like to thank our guest speakers, exhibitors and all in attendance for contributing to the growth and success of the event.
