The National Qualifications Framework governs all education and training in South Africa, it is managed by the South African Qualifications Authority. Adult Vocational Training is regulated through accredited quality assurance functionaries grouped into industry sectors. The local work at height standards are housed within the Service Seta.
We are delighted to announce that our IRATA South Africa, not for profit company (NPC), was awarded provisional accreditation as a provider of education and training – Accreditation No 12440. Consequently, all SA-RAC constituent member companies are now deemed satellite training venues of the IRATA South Africa NPC and accredited to offer training and certification for the work at height unit standards, these being;
- 229994 – Assess a worksite for work at height and prepare a fall protection plan
- 229996 – Rig working ropes, undertake rescues & perform a range of rope access tasks
- 229997 – Select equipment & rig ropes for rope access projects
- 229998 – Explain and perform fall arrest techniques when working at height
- 230000 – Perform a limited range of rope access tasks and rescues
- 230001 – Supervise rope access teams & perform advanced manoeuvres & rescues
All IRATA technicians, successfully completing an IRATA assessment, will thus be able to receive local official certification.
This is a significant milestone reached by IRATA South Africa and the progression of industrial rope access in the region. On behalf of IRATA, and constituent members, gratitude is expressed to our incumbent South African RAC Chairman, Mark Campbell, for this magnificent achievement on behalf of our Association.
