The British Standards Institution (BSI) has just published BS 8610:2017, Personal fall protection equipment – Anchor systems – Specification

The new standard is intended for the type testing of anchor systems that are installed and tested in the base materials specified by the manufacturer. It is intended for manufacturers, anchor system installers and the users of anchor systems, as well as any other interested party (for example, architects and structural engineers). It outlines the requirements and test methods to ensure that structural anchor systems of personal fall protection equipment are safe to use in foreseeable conditions of use.

It is noted that anchor systems for rope access should meet the requirements of the rope access industry for anchor systems, as detailed in BS 7985: 2013 and the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) International code of practice for industrial rope access (ICOP).

Further information on the use of anchor systems in personal fall protection systems, including rope access, can be found in BS 8437M, BS 7985 and BS 7883.

More information on the development on this standard and those involved can be found here.
